Authors' talk @ the book launch by Mike Ibeafu and Ekene Aguegboh @ University of Nigeria.
Ekene speaks......
Personally, the idea of writing a book on academic excellence came to mind in third year during my undergraduate studies. However, the message in this piece wasn't exactly what I had in mind.
As luck would have it, I have been a guest to a radio station ( Radio Sapintia) in Anambra state for the past four years, where I discuss the subject matter of academic excellence. In the first edition of my talk show at Radio Sapintia ( in 2013), I met Mike Ibeafu, a seasoned and award winning author and Pastor who came to give out free copies of his award winning book to the students, and we got talking. The seed of that discussion is the book we are here to launch.
First class Formula is Mike's idea, he gave the book its name and I kind of liked it, because it was catchy, plus we felt it would appeal to all classes of students. We now find out that the title to this book is quite a misconception, as opinions from students reveal that most graduating students feel the book is not meant for them, but for beginners or second year students.
SUMMARY OF THE BOOK.
First class Formula carries a message that overwhelms it's title. While it lays emphasis on the subject matter of academic excellence, a greater part of the book focuses on what it takes to be a well - rounded student in school, things to do that would help your career life beyond the four walls of the university, and importantly this book is essentially about strategies for brazing the challenges of school and work life.Besides, Some of the messages it carries are quite unusual. The heading to this ten - chapter book are entitled Start right, follow your bliss, study effectively, memory development, team dynamics, laws of academic success, emotional intelligence, success beyond examination , mentorship and self discovery.
THE EXPECTED IMPACT THE BOOK SHOULD HAVE
As regards the expected impact, this book was borne out of the Passion to help ordinary students achieve extra - ordinary result in their academic and career life.
Isaac Newton and Leitzberg never met each other when they wrote on the differential calculus independently. Similarly, the Authors ( Mike and I) had not met professor P.N OKEKE,who on his own had written a piece on the same concept last year. Well, professor P.N Okeke' s piece was entitled " how to achieve greatness " ,thus, we expect that this book would help readers achieve greatness in their individual lives. Indeed, it was a dream come true when Professor P.N.Okeke identified with this this project by writing the foreword and recommending this book to students.
Additionally, this book comes with hands - on experience from the 10 first class students interviewed from public universities, private universities, Polytechnic and colleges of education, as we wanted its contents to supersede the view point of the Authors.
Thank you all for coming.....
